An Opinion Of Difference

Those who believe in nothing can be convinced of anything…and that makes people who have no opinion a threat to themselves and to society.

It’s essential that we hold some things to be true; that there are ideas, ideals and individuals we value. That, however, does not excuse us of the responsibility of questioning those ideas, ideals and individuals. Both truth and lies must be tested because there is security in certainty. Insecurity breed anxiety; uncertainty depression.

We live in a world where we being force-fed opinion. But not every opinion is fair, just and honest. Opinion is often little more than an emotional reaction to a factual situation. One individual’s perception can be vastly different to that of another. It’s coloured by life experience and real time situation.

Perceptions change. So too do opinions. Maturity and circumstance are important contributing factors. But neither perception or opinion can be altered if they do not pre-exist.

No-one can be assured they are right or convinced they are wrong if they refuse to make a stance; to have an opinion.

We must know what we think and why we think it and that requires a depth of honesty  not possible if we do not know, understand and accept ourselves.

It’s when the person the world sees is the person we truly are that we can live our lives more fully.

At the core of self-knowledge is the one reward we all desire and many people appear unable to find. And that’s happiness.

We generate and find our own happiness and that’s not possible if our head and heart are in constant turmoil.

Knowing ourselves takes conscious and constant effort. There will be changes that must be made, conflicts to be resolved – but knowing and loving the who that we are is central to a life well lived.
