Forget, Reset or Regret

The single greatest risk we face in a world driven to distraction by distractions is that of losing touch with ourselves.

It’s all too easy to forget who we are, why we are and where we are. We can become a stranger to ourselves. By striving to be all things to all people in all situations we run the very real risk of becoming someone we no longer recognise.

Self care goes well beyond healthy eating and moderate exercise. Exterior presentation may be a convenient shield but it is no compensation for interior confusion.

It takes work to get head and heart to align…to ensure that what we think and how we act are in sync. There may be times when it is easier to live a lie but that is unsustainable. We are ultimately required to be true to ourselves.

The one person it is impossible to escape is the one person we are. Best then to get to know who we are, make peace with ourself and change those bits of our behaviour or personality that we find lacking or unacceptable. Change is our and ours alone to make.

It’s in getting to know ourself that we can become the type of person we can love. It’s only by knowing and loving the person we are that we are able to know and love anyone else. Living a full and complete life has more to do with what is happening inside of us than with what is happening around us.

We must make the conscious decision to regularly reassess and reappraise. It’s when we pause and take a few steps back from the person we have become that we are better able to see the person we want to be. And we should cultivate the desire to be a better person tomorrow than we are today.
