Life: As Good As We Make It

The troubles, demands and pressures of everyday living means it’s often not possible to see the good for the squeeze.

All too often we find we are restricted by responsibilities and left struggling to make sense. We can become so distracted that we lose connection with the person we are and that impacts on the relationship we have with ourselves.

It’s when we neglect self care that we run the risk of burnout. There’s a very great danger in becoming distant from ourselves; of losing sight of who we are and why we are. It’s when we become lost to ourselves that we run the risk of becoming lost to the world.

The importance of downtime and timeouts cannot be overstated. The conscious effort we take to pause and refocus is rewarded by the reserves of mental strength that are restocked. It’s a very personal thing. Others can guide and suggest but the heavy lifting is ours and ours alone.

Pushing the pause button on life and taking a few moments to appreciate where we are and the things that surround us can significantly reduce our stress levels.  It can mean the difference between being grounded and being ground down; between calm and confusion. Taking the time to make the effort  – and doing it regularly – is important.

If we can find the beauty and joy in a moment in time we can also find reassurance and refreshment. Along with that state of mind comes gratefulness and appreciation.

True happiness comes from who we are and not from what we have. It’s in the pursuit of the latter that we can neglect the former.

Life is as good as we make it. And we can all make it better by taking the time to breathe and regroup; relaxing, refreshing and rebooting.
