Generosity of spirit is a human quality that is becoming increasingly difficult to find and yet it’s something we need to survive as a society.
True generosity is something that comes from the heart and is of the heart. Even more than sharing it’s about caring.
If we give with the expectation that we will then receive our motivation is misplaced and we will be continually disappointed.
The truth is that we don’t always get what we give but that should never be an excuse for not giving.
Giving from what we have accumulated physically is a relatively simple process. Handing over money or possessions brings with it a certain gratification. We know we have helped meet a need.
But the most common need is the need for connection…the need to be understood…the need to be heard…the need to love and be loved.
Statistics show that an increasing number of people are suffering from emotional insecurity which results in instability. Communal isolation is largely to blame. We can feel alone while being surrounded by people.
We spend an inordinate amount of time searching for someone who is on the same page when the truth is that most of us are reading from different books.
It’s important that we should foster and promote true kindness and compassion…the kind that neither seeks nor expects reward or return.
The right word at the right time to the right person can be life-changing. The simplest thing can make the biggest difference.
We should not be dissuaded by the fear of rejection but encouraged by the prospect of true connection.
The more we practice generosity of spirit, the more often we speak and act from the heart the more we get to know ourselves and that is the real return, the true reward.
A beautiful timely reminder in today’s world to spread authentic kindness – such a massive impact for a little effort.
