So noisy has the world become that we are losing our ability to listen. So busy has the world become that we are losing our ability to focus. So self-centred has the world become that we are losing our ability to care. That which we were is being eroded. We are being robbed of our essence.
There’s a crying need for us all to learn how to be more human; to reconnect; to re-balance; to reground.
Being human is as much about conformity as it is about individualism. We are all part of a greater whole…but the seething masses are nothing more than a collection of singletons – every one of them different.
Before we can fully appreciate or even begin to understand another person we must first know ourselves. If we are unable to accept and love the person we have become we are not entitled to expect love and acceptance from others. If we are unable to recognise our own inherent value how is it possible that others will fully appreciate it?
The good news is that change is possible. The most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. Attitudes and opinions can be reshaped. Personalities can be restructured. We can rehumanise. It is within us all to become better versions of ourselves.
The first step is belief. The second is intent. If we understand where we are at we can look to where we want to be. The thing that makes a dream a reality is action and action takes commitment.
A good place to start is listening…first to ourselves and then to others. But listening is not enough. It must be accompanied by hearing. Hearing leads to understanding and understanding to compassion.
Above all else, if you can be anything, be kind.
