Character Assignation

The very best and the very worst of human nature is revealed in times of success and in times of failure.

Extremes strip us of veneers and pretence and leave us with nothing more than our own truth. It’s at times such as these that we see our friends, family and associates for who they really are. Their true character is revealed.

While that may be surprising or even disappointing, the greater challenge comes in recognising and accepting the person we have become. By purposeful design or deliberate neglect we have created the who that we are. And that can be either a blessing or a burden. We can distance ourselves from others but wherever we go, there we are.

Health issues – both physical and mental – can result from the shock that comes with the realisation that we fall short of the standards we believed we were holding dear.

Others may disappoint us but the impact is minor compared to self-centred disappointment. Much depends on whether we choose to be our own best friend or our own worst enemy.

There’s reassurance in the fact that change is possible…and it’s never too late to change.

Every day is a new opportunity and no-one can take advantage of that on our behalf.

And while success can go to our heads as easily as failure can go to our hearts it’s in  finding the balance between the two – and holding fast to it – that we become the person we are.

More than that we are shoring up the foundation of the person we will be tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

Life is all about change and challenge, much of it unexpected.

Quality of life is all about how we meet that change and challenge and use it to become a better version of ourselves.
