Promise Of A New Day

Every day brings with it opportunity…a time or set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something.

It’s what we do with the opportunities we encounter that is key to our happiness, fulfillment and stability.

We can create our own opportunities or accept those created by others. We can do something or we can do nothing. We get to choose. And that’s a good thing because not every opportunity promises a positive outcome. That’s where experience and observation come into play.

On balance there are quite probably as many opportunities to make a mistake or fall into error as there are opportunities to move forward and add value to our lives and the lives of those around us.

We should all draw on what we have learned and the unavoidable truth that reaction to circumstance is a prelude to consequence before embracing a particular idea or direction.

An opportunity ignored is an opportunity missed…but that can either be a good thing or a bad thing.

It’s rare that we face a set of circumstances which present the opportunity to be life-changing. There is much more of the mundane than the dramatic in the lives of most people. But even the mundane warrants thought and attention. A succession of minor changes and choices can have a significant cumulative result.

Just as there are missed opportunities that trigger regret there are seized opportunities that have resulted in anguish and disappointment. Neither should be used as an excuse to reject the present or fear the future. Both have contributed to the person we are and allow us to work on becoming the person we want to be.

And just as every day brings with it opportunities, a new day brings with it promise.

It’s not always immediately obvious and some days can depend on how hard we look.

The choice, though, is always ours.
