That we are is obvious. The greater struggle lies in understanding why we are.
A major stressor in the lives of many is the pursuit of a reason for being. We are here. It is now. We are able to unpack the reasons for being in this particular place at this particular point in time. But we may not be able to understand why. And often it feels that the more energy we expend on seeking an explanation the more confusing or unobtainable it becomes.
Understanding why and being comfortable with it is key to living a fulfilling life.
The who, what, when and where of life all happen regardless. We contribute to the process but we draw from the raw materials around us…our family, our friends, our environment, our past and our present. The building blocks are there and the choices made are ours.
The why, though, is something entirely of our own creation. It’s the conclusion we draw when all else is taken into consideration. The why is something we find within. It’s core. It can change as life moves on. But it does not cease to exist simply because we refuse to acknowledge it. Nor does it disappear when life’s challenges sometimes overwhelm us. It’s real and it’s intensely personal. And the why – when acknowledged – meshes with motivation and becomes purpose.
We all have a why and we all have the obligation of existence to embrace it.
History is shaped more by the why of an individual’s existence than the who. It’s the person and not the personality that is remembered. The who and the when may have an impact but it’s the why that is influential and the why that becomes eternal.
We all have value and we all have a reason for being. We decide whether we find that comforting or confusing.
