In a world where negativity and despondency are attitudes that are so easily nurtured it can be more than a little difficult to be focused and motivated.
So much of what surrounds us conspires to drag us down, undermine our enthusiasm and dismantle our dreams. We can either be defeated on a daily basis or stronger in our determination to keep forging forward.
The key is discernment…knowing the difference between right and wrong, accepting that there is a difference and deciding which one we will embrace. Hand-in-hand is the ability to be able to distinguish between that which is within our control and that which is beyond our control.
True discernment is something that is impossible to teach. True discernment is forged in the fires of experience. It’s only by application that theories are proven.
We learn from our experiences. Our individuality gives us the freedom to use what we have learned to grow and mature or ignore the lesson and run the risk of painful repetition. No-one can make that decision for us.
There are circumstances we encounter that can be as difficult as we permit them to be. It’s important to know when to let go. A lack of discernment can prove to be an impediment to a happy and balanced life.
We may not control what we think or when we think it but we can ultimately decide how we think. We also decide how we behave…our opinions…our attitudes. We get to choose. We are responsible and we must accept the consequences.
It’s through a commitment to discernment and by practicing discernment that we are able to make the decisions that are best for us.
There are vast expanses of grey separating the black and white that is right and wrong. Discernment is what helps us negotiate that space..
