Knowing truth is one thing…accepting it is something else entirely.
Truth is coloured by opinion, attitude, experience and knowledge. That makes it malleable. One person’s interpretation of that which is true can be at odds with the interpretation of another. We can alter the truth to suit our convenience or our situation.
At the heart of the matter, however, is the matter of the heart. While there are always exceptions to the rule, most people have little difficulty knowing their own truth. That personal knowledge can either be a hindrance or a help. We know ourselves better than anyone else can know us.
We keep things hidden from the world in our hearts. The true self can remain a secret to the outside world.
Because we are influenced by the heart but driven by the brain we are unable to escape the person we are. We can run and we can hide but we are always there with our self…our true self.
We know when our personal truth is out of line with real and general truth. We know when we are lying to ourselves. Our conscience remains our guide.
Even those who choose to be out of step with the rest of the world wrestle with their private, hidden thoughts. They are in constant battle with their conscience. They are troubled and they are tired.
It’s reassuring to know that change is possible…at any time and at any age.
If we are unhappy with the person we are…if we continually disappointment ourselves…if we struggle with the truth…it’s within our power to adjust and adapt…to grow and change.
We can all be a better version of ourselves. Only we can do it for ourselves.
Choosing to ignore the truth that is in our hearts and our heads unnecessarily complicates our life and the lives of those who share our journey.
