Being Real In The Real World

Perspective is hard won and can often be overlooked.

To fully appreciate how good things are we must also have a knowledge of  how bad they can be. It’s rarely sufficient for that knowledge to be no more than theoretical. It must be experiential. We must see it and feel it for it to be real.

A life well lived is all about a life being real. It’s about being in the moment, in the day and in the world.

Regardless of our flights of fancy or our vivid imaginations, we all occupy space in the real world. Disconnection, at best, can be only temporary. The bliss associated with ignorance has a use-by date. Escape from our surroundings is not sustainable.

The way we cope with living in the real world is by nurturing a sense of perspective…by weighing up the negatives against the positives and the power, significance and weight we will give to either. Our mindset is something we are free to determine. We get to choose.

A good first choice is to start each new day with the honest conviction to work on being a better version of ourselves. If we can achieve that much then we will be better placed to make a positive contribution in the space we occupy thereby boosting the prospect of  enhancing the lives of those in our immediate circle.

Better people make a better world.

Perception has strong links to perspective. The way we see things becomes the way we think about them and that divides us into two camps. There are those who say “I’ll believe it when I see it” and others who say “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

Our choice between the two – coupled with our conviction – will largely determine if we will be a better version of ourselves today than we were yesterday.

It’s worth thinking about.
