A Matter Of Choice

Living life is complicated. Acknowledging a past, living in the present and accepting that the future will be what it will be takes effort. Living life can be both physically and emotionally exhausting. It can also be exquisitely rewarding and fulfilling.

Not living life, merely existing, can be far more convoluted and perplexing.

There’s a vast difference between disconnecting and disentangling. There are times when the two can be confused. Disconnecting means cutting ties, burning bridges, closing doors and minds and expecting the desired result will simply materialise. Disentangling means working to make sense of situations and relationships. It means thinking things through, rationalising, changing and accepting. It can also mean moving on.

The most contradictory and confounding person we will ever face in our lifetime is ourselves. For that very reason it’s essential that we get to know who we are, understand our motivations and emotions and appreciate our own uniqueness.

The one person impossible to escape is the person that we are. Knowing who we are allows us the latitude to make the changes necessary to become the person we want to be. If that’s what we decide we want. And no-one can make that decision for us.

The reality is that the ability to change is within us all but there are times when the challenges swamp the will; when the shadows make it difficult to see let alone to focus. It’s at those time when it’s essential  we ensure that, even if our progress is slowed, we work hard to stop it from stalling. And, even if it stalls, we find to resources to restart. Again and again if necessary.

Failure is not defeat.

Perfection is an unrealistic ideal…but we can always be better tomorrow than we are today. The choice is ours and ours alone.

  1. Absolutely! Relapsing or falling back into familiar habits is inevitable at times – it’s how we get out of and move forward that instigates small but perceptible changes. Spot on.
