Opportunity And Promise

There’s a very good chance that what we choose to do today – and even what we choose to think today – could determine the course of our life for the foreseeable future. And that’s a daunting prospect.

If you accept the premise that we have the ability to mould our own destiny, then it makes good sense to make an effort to act and think positively. That can, at times, require conscious and sustained effort.

There will always be outside influences that conspire to confuse and disappoint. Negativity abounds. When it’s all said and done, however, we can make it or we can break it. The responsibility is ours and ours alone.

That’s not to say that we should shy away from accepting the help of others. There may be times when it’s necessary to call out for that help. Such assistance may be physical, psychological or spiritual. It may be all three that we need when facing a challenge. Recognising a personal need and then seeking and accepting the help available can make the difference between living and merely existing.

We can do a lot of running and we can do a lot of hiding in the course of a lifetime. But the one person it’s impossible to ultimately avoid is the inner person we know better than anyone else. Sooner or later we will catch up with ourselves.

It’s rare that an individual is entirely satisfied with the person they have become. There’s always room for improvement. There’s a danger too that we can become too self-critical. It’s one thing to work on becoming a better and more fulfilled person. It’s another thing entirely to fall into the trap of becoming our own worst enemy.

The dawn of every new day brings with it fresh opportunity and promise. It’s up to each and everyone of us to decide what we’re going to do with what’s on offer.
