Making A Difference

Assumption and presumption have a lot to answer for. When we assume and presume we set restrictions in place. Restriction results in constriction. Our wants and desires are no longer within reach. We have unnecessarily added to the general complication of our own life.

There’s a lot going on around us. There’s a lot that directly involves us and still more that begs our intervention,  interference or contribution. We can be easily distracted. The risk of distraction is that tasks can be left incomplete. Important issues can be overlooked.

It’s vital that we accept responsibility for the emotional clutter of our own making; that we do something about the baggage we have accumulated along the way. Motivation pales into something approaching insignificance when seen alongside result. The cause is something to be examined and modified after the effect is dealt with. We may have assumed, we may have presumed or we may have avoided. Regardless, individuals must own their actions.

The problem is that we live in a Teflon society where it’s generally recognised that nothing sticks. It’s a relatively simple matter to find an excuse; something or someone to blame. A reason. A cause. A motivation. Everything is shifted, nothing is resolved. And so society’s standards decline further. The path of least resistance is easy to follow because it’s all downhill.

No guts, no glory. And while acceptance of personal responsibility is more than difficult it’s nowhere near as complicated as making reparation. It takes effort to do the right thing.

Everything begins with frank reassessment. There must be a starting point; honest self appraisal. And that must be followed by a determination to change; to improve; to grow.

Life is both a journey and a process. One without the other can be a missed opportunity; a wasted chance to contribute. Everyone has the potential to make a difference.
