We don’t have to look far to find something to complain about. It’s not all that difficult to spend time bemoaning lost opportunities and past mistakes. Very few people could say that they are where they had both imagined and planned to be at this very time in their life.
One of the few unavoidable certainties we face is the unpredictability of life. And that can be a scary prospect if we allow it to be. But it’s not what life throws at us that defines us…it’s how we react; what we do with what we have. It’s about being both wary and aware and learning from the examples of others. It’s about knowing ourselves and learning to love ourselves. It’s about the willingness to learn and change. It’s about striving to be the best person we can be.
We can see each new day as a troublesome burden or we can see it as a fresh opportunity…a gifted chance to right some wrongs, heal some wounds and move forward.
It’s reassuring to realise that positive change doesn’t have to be dramatic. In fact gradual change can be lasting change. Small steps taken every day can be more than sufficient. And a setback or two is not the end of the journey. Life’s lesson is peppered with defeats. But is it also smattered with victories. It’s important that we don’t allow either one to overwhelm us.
We should take more time to celebrate the excellence of existence. Every individual has something to contribute. Everyone has potential. In encouraging others we can draw the strength needed for self-encouragement.
Everyone has a story to tell and they should have an audience. Every life has purpose and that’s something to be encouraged and applauded. That’s one of the few hopes we have of overcoming evil and making tomorrow an improved version of today.
