People procrastinate. We know what needs to be done but, all too often, we delay doing it. We have a tendency to set aside all but the most urgent of tasks until such time as can be bothered broaching the subject. And therein lies the danger.
A large proportion of the anxiety we suffer is generated by concern about our growing list of responsibilities; about the urgency of the issues we are facing. Sometimes even the most pressing of issues are relegated to the too hard basket.
Accountability takes effort. We seek out distractions. We evade. We avoid. Anything that is easier. Anything to avoid the obvious. And so our too hard basket becomes increasingly crammed.
Can come the time when our delayed decisions, our side-stepped tasks appear to be an insurmountable obstacle. The combined weight can crush our spirit. We hurt and we hurt all the more because we acknowledge that the fault lies with us and our reluctance to make a decision, however difficult. There is little strength to be drawn from that position.
What’s needed is a commitment to commit; a heart-felt, head-driven effort to tackle the torment of tarrying.
The way to start dealing with the agony of being overwhelmed is to prioritise…to break the decision down into smaller components and deal with each and every one of those components calmly and conclusively.
Success is no less permanent and satisfying when it is achieved by degrees rather than by the flare of spectacle.
Delay can result in decay. Some things need to be faced head-on and the sooner the better.
We all have baggage to carry through life but there are many burdens we struggle with when they can be cast aside. Life was not meant to be easy but neither was it meant to be as difficult as it can sometimes be when we continue to put off to a tomorrow that never comes that which should be decided/confronted/done today.
